Can please someone tell me what logic is used for contour function which takes input as a matrix ?

.how contour is plotted basically ..which pixels values it takes for contour..?

is it like changing intensity of matrix or what ? function is [c,h] = contour(z,[0,0]),

i want only single contour of matrix z..but not getting exactly which pixels matlab takes for plotting it ..
