Creating a best-fit shape based on multiple image outlines

I want to create a "best fit" shape based on the outline of several shapes. For example, in the attached image I have the outlines of three shapes and a representation of what a "best fit" outline might look like.

I've looked at a few curve fittings idea's, but I can't find a solution.
