Genetic algorithm solver for mixed-integer or continuous-variable optimization, constrained or unconstrained, Genetic algorithm solves smooth or non-smooth optimization problems with any types of constraints, including integer constraints. It is a stochastic, population-based algorithm that searches randomly by mutation and crossover among population members[1].

<Mathworks.com How-do-i-cite-matlab-in-a-bibliography-or-a-published-journal?> is the corporate answer; your institution undoubtedly has a guidelines document for you to consult for your specific instance,
You have to decide what it is you're referencing; the specific implementation of MATLAB or the underlying algorithm--or either/both in different contexts. In isolation, we can't tell.

Well, in that case all there is to go on there are the references TMW links to in the documentation for the function ga.
MATLAB is a proprietary product; and TMW doesn't publicly describe beyond the documentation what they do, specifically, in their implementations.
