CLASSIFYING A OBJECT

I am doing project on Object recognition.

I have to calculate euclidean distance between the test vector and universal eigenspace.

After calculating the distance,how to detrmine the shortest distance? What is the command for it?

And after calculating the shortest distance how to classify the object(test image belonging to a particular class and orientation). How do i do the above mentioned steps? Pls help me
