Import Data Fails to open excel file

This used to work, now it doesn't. Am using Matlab R2020b on a Mac. When I click on the import data function and ask to open an Excel file, it never opens the file. The horizontally moving green bar in the box saying "Opening large spreadsheet..." just keeps moving and never opens the file. I tried restarting the computer. This used to work fine, but today it did not.

Use readmatrix() or readtable() which are much more efficient and faster than uiimport() or importdata() fcns that you have used. You can also try xlsread() or csvread(), but they are slower than readmatrix() or readtable().
