how to write \tilde{R_1} in matlab legend, I tried with this not working

I want to write \tilde{R_1} in matlab legend, I tried with this not working

legend('$\tilde{R}_{1}=\tilde{R}_{2}=1(Sim.)$','Interpreter','latex') through this command I am able to get but while editting it for different plot I am again getting a error attached with this

I tried this code below and it was working. Could you compare with your own code?
clc; clear; close all;
text(0.5, 0.5, '$$\tilde{a}$$', 'Interpreter', 'LaTeX')
