Why can I not type the power symbol (^) in the SimscapeOnramp Block Parameter of the PIPE (IL) as required

I am trying to input the required equation in the cross sectional area as requested. However, I am not able to insert the power symbol (^). How can I do that? I tried changing the layout to US but was also not able to add the power symbol (^).

My system is a MacBook Air, running MacOS Monterey version 12.0.1

I have included 2 screen shots. You can notice that the keyboard view shows a yellow marking for the power key. When I press it the symbol it is not added to the equation. The keyboard layout is Austrian layout.

The keyboard layout is Austrian not German. I thought they were the same but apparantly not. Sorry about that.

The orange mark around the two keeps in the German layout indicate that those keys are acting as "dead keys" that add accents on to characters. For example you might press the ^ and then o to get ô

I was not able to find that same keyboard layout on my iMac (Catalina) -- the German layouts I could find have < on the key shown as having ^ . So I could not test to be absolutely sure.

What you likely have to press on your keyboard is the ^ key followed by space

The layout is Austrian. Sorry about that mistake.

I was not able to find that exact same keyboard layout even on a Macbook Pro M2 . I was able to find Austrian under German, but compose key under the escape does not appear on any of the layouts I could find. All of the German layouts I could find have a < key there (with shift of it being the > key)

I checked some of the other German layouts, and some of them (especially Swiss German) hid the ^ pretty well. On some of them, the way to get the key was to press command-shift-6 followed by space.

I am thinking that you are probably using a different keyboard layout, and that there might be a keycap in that position that simply does not exist on the layouts I am looking at (not just moved around.)

Please try again, with three possibilities:

• press and release that ^ key and then press space
• press and hold that ^ key and then press space
• press and hold command and then i and release both, then press space . (For clarity, i is the lower-case I key to the right of your u key.)

Thank you Walter for your answers. I tried the three possibilities but was not successful at producing the ^ which I can do in this text box. I tried it in command window in matlab that works. But not in the Simscape Onramp. If you have any other ideas please feel free to inform me.

Are you using Simscape Onramp on MATLAB Online, or on your local system?

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is copy-and-paste a character. But more sophisticated ways:

Thank you very much for your contribution to solving this oddity.

I have changed the keyboard layout to Unicode Hex Input. I had to open and close the Simscape Onramp Online course a couple of times before it registered the new keyboard layout. Then I was able to insert the ^ character in the Simscape Onramp online program.

The answer is to use the "Unicode Hex Input" keyboard instead of the usual keyboards in my case the Austrian keyboard on the Apple Mac. Then open the Simscape Onramp Online course a couple of times till it accepts the "Unicode Hex Input" keyboard and then insert the ^ symbol into the apropriate location.
