stairs function not plotting entire data in R2014B

I'm using Matlab R2014B on Ubuntu 12.04. When I try to plot a vector using the stairs function, only part of the data is plotted.
For example, if I run
stairs(1:10)
only the points 3:8 are plotted.
Is there a solution to this problem?
