How to simulate RGB color filters in MATLAB

Hi,

I'd like to know if there is a way to construct a red filter, a blue filter and a green filter in MATLAB. An example of construction just one filter will do. I'd like to know how to construct these filters because I will be extending it towards creating other filters for other colors as well.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Are you just aiming for a sort of visual effect (some sort of colorization), or are you actually trying to accurately simulate the transmission characteristics of a particular optical filter?

Hi DGM, I'm part of the team which develops these filters but before we start developing the hardware filters, we would like to run some simulations to see how well they would perform in mosaiking a colored image. I recently joined the team and have very little background in optics so I'm seeking some help.

@Thein Htet Aung: Start with learning more about the physical background. Implementing a "red-filter" is trivial in Matlab, but has not a physical meaning:

Img(:, :, 1) = 0;  % All red RGB parts removed

Hi Jan, I appreciate your help. I do know that a color image has 3 color channels consisting of R, G and B. The problem is I need to build a filter that can filter other bands of colors such as the ones with specific frequency bandwidth, e.g. 400-440 nm. You can point out the resources for me to learn if you have anything in mind. Thanks.
