face recognition learn photos

Hi everyone, I have a question about face recognition software that developed by matlab. I know that, in order to recognize person`s face the software must learn the persons face many times in different positions. is that right ?

thank you for your answer, but could matlab recognize person in different positions, knowing that the matlab software learned or took only one photo of the person ? is that possible ?

Probably as long as the angles weren't extremely different.
