How to pick neighborhoods points of a center point in rectangle or square form that make a matrix of like 5*5, 7*7, 7*5 etc.

I have points of a torus, and i want to pick the patch "shaded area" or i want to pick the neighrborhoods points of a center points in rectangle or square form. I applied the rangesearch from MATLAB and got red points as neighborhoods points, but i want the neighborhoods points in a patch form (rectangle or in square form). Please suggest how can i get the patch like this.

How would the points ever form a rectangle if they are from the curved surface of the torus?
