The reason is simple. The = operator is an assignment operator. It assigns whatever is on the right side to the variable on the left.

1*1835008=1*786432(1024*256*2(1:1024,:,1:2)),[1:256,1*262144)]

But what do you have?

The left hand side is a NUMBER. You cannot assign something to a number. We don't even need to check any further to look at what the right hand side was, since MATLAB is already stuck.

What you wrote in your comment is not in fact MATLAB. You cannot write code in other languages, and expect MATLAB to recognize that as valid code. I'm sorry, but it is not at all clear what you are doing in that other language you wrote, or what you expect to generate.

I'm sorry, but no, that is not even remotely valid MATLAB!!! You need to learn MATLAB. For example, look at your code one line at a time:

NOT MATLAB. A for statement does not end in do. I don't know what language you are coming from, but it is NOT MATLAB.

Again, NOT VALID MATLAB syntax! You cannot alays just use square and rounded brackets interchangably.
