How can I fix Matlab high cpu usage at idle?

Whenever I use Matlab, the System process uses ~14% CPU (in the task manager). This happens even if I just startup Matlab and let it idle (no GUI interaction or code execution).
Using Process Explorer, I identified ntoskrnl.exe!ExTryQueueWorkItem to be responsible for the CPU usage.
How can I fix this?

It was an issue with the graphics card driver (NVIDIA Quadro T1000). Updating the driver to the latest version fixed the issue.
