Hello MathWorks Community,
I'm interested in comparing various modulation techniques for three-phase inverters, such as SPWM, DPWM, and SVPWM. I want to evaluate their impact on different power electronics criteria, including noise, efficiency, and cost.
However, implementing each modulation technique individually is quite challenging. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to efficiently compare these modulation methods without having to implement each one from scratch?
I'm particularly looking for:
  1. Efficient ways to compare multiple PWM techniques
  2. Tools or libraries that might simplify this comparison process
  3. Any existing studies or resources that have already done similar comparisons
Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Above example compares different PWM strategies like Sine PWM, SVPWM, DPWM in respect to Switching losses and THD. Let me know if it is useful for you.

Thank you for your quick response and the suggestion. The example you provided is indeed helpful, but I'd like to clarify my specific requirements:
  1. Open-loop comparison: I'm looking to implement an open-loop comparison of different PWM techniques without closed-loop control. This approach allows for a more direct comparison of the inherent characteristics of each modulation method.
  2. Application focus: My target application is a grid-connected inverter for photovoltaic (PV) systems. This context is important as it may influence the evaluation criteria and performance metrics.
  3. PWM techniques: I'm particularly interested in comparing SPWM, DPWM, and SVPWM for this specific application.
  4. Performance metrics: Given the PV grid-connected inverter context, I'm looking to evaluate:
  • Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the output current
  • Switching losses
  • Conduction losses
  • Common Mode Voltage (CMV)
  • Efficiency across different power levels
  1. Implementation approach: I'm considering using MATLAB/Simulink to model the inverter and implement different PWM techniques. This would allow for:
  • Easy switching between modulation strategies
  • Calculation of performance metrics
  • Visualization of waveforms and spectral content
  1. Additional considerations:
  • Impact of different modulation indices
  • Compliance with grid codes and standards
Could you provide guidance on how to set up such a comparison in MATLAB/Simulink, particularly focusing on the open-loop implementation of these PWM techniques for a grid-connected PV inverter? Any example code snippets or Simulink block diagrams would be greatly appreciated.
