visadev USB device-driver requirements

I'm currently developing a custom instrument. I'm using the NI driver wizard to produce a usb-raw VISA driver. When I use the old visa command the instrument is found and works accordingly, however the newer visadevlist and visadev commands don't see it. The device is available in the NI-VISA-interactive tool, as well as NI max. My question is: What do the visadev/visadevlist commands require from the device driver to be seen that the visa/instrhwinfo do not. Do they simply need to reply to an *IDN? command or is it something more?
