Is there a way to play a movie in MATLAB in other than avi formats? Is there a counterpart to audioread?

Is there a way to play a movie in MATLAB in other than avi formats? Is there a counterpart to audioread? videoplayer is there like audioplayer but it plays only avi files if I am right. Playing videos does not seem to me as simple as playing audios in MATLAB.

The Computer Vision Toolkit has the only other facility to read movies. See http://www.mathworks.com/help/vision/ref/vision.videofilereader-class.html
