2D Joint Histogram Explanation

Can anyone please explain little bit about 2D Joint histogram. I need clarification about the imhist function and 2D joint histogram?

What information do you need? imhist() is in the Image Processing Toolbox, and the 2-D histogram, called hist3() for some reason, is in the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox.
