Hi, I'm working on a GUI and would like to use the 'addlistener' routine, which is a built-in function in current Matlab releases. Since I'm still working on r2008a (where the routine is not available yet), my question is if this routine is available for download somewhere, so I can add it to my Matlab version?

Nope, only upgrading to a release which includes it (or, in some cases, there are File Exchange submissions which provide the functionality for earlier releases but they're not "builtins"). I'm guessing the addlistener routine requires hooks into Matlab not available for even a mex file.

Unless I'm missing something, the use case of the file exchange submission in question is directly supported in MATLAB by the documented interface: event.proplistener:

It is now. It wasn't back when Yair originally submitted that file; then he WAS using undocumented and unsupported functionality.

ADDLISTENER is part of release R2008a. It was introduced along with the newest object-oriented programming system (as described in the Release Notes for MATLAB for that release.) It is a method of the handle class, so you will need to call it with a handle object as the first input argument "HSOURCE". If you're trying to use this to listen to properties of Handle Graphics objects, I'm not sure if that is possible, supported, and/or recommended in that release.
