need guidance for Lips detection in gray scale image

We are doing the final year project "sentiment detection through facial expression". we need some guidance as we are working on color image. We are halt at the stage of detecting the lips.

Adnan - did you check the link I gave you below??? It's a list of virtually all image processing articles on the subject. Also have you checked the File Exchange for lips and related things like face recognition?

They're the oval shaped thing in the lower middle of the face.
