Changing for loop into recursive

how would I go about changing this to become recursive

for x=1
    if (10^x)*p<q
        x=x+1;
    elseif (10^x)*p>q
        break
    end
end

The recursive version of that code is

if 10*p<q
  x = 2;
else
  x = 1;
end
