Is there any way to read 4K GoPro video in Matlab2015a (Windows 7, 64bit)?

I have some 4K GoPro video (mp4) that I want to load and analyze in Matlab2015a on Windows 7 (64 bit). I have tried to use the VideoReader but it does not work. The videos are easily opened using Windows Media Player so the required codecs are available. It does not seem like Matlab uses these codecs. Is there any other way to load the 4K video files into Matlab without converting them to another format? If not, does anyone have a tool for converting the files to avi (lossless) to recommend?

I couldn’t find any way to import it directly when I did an Internet search.
Request a GoPro Hardware Support Package as an ‘enhancement request’. Use the ‘Bug Reports’ form on the Contact Support page.

.mp4 are documented as working with Windows 7 or later, along with any format supported by Microsoft Media Foundations.
