Maintaining Excel cell format when importing to MATLAB

I am new to Matlab. I am having difficulty importing Excel data into Matlab and maintaining the same format as in Excel. It is a simple spreadsheet with 3 columns. Date (06/01/16), time (11:05:00) and Volts (-0.345). The data columns are formatted as Date, Time and Number respectively. When I import the Time just produces a number e.g. 0.6097 instead of hh:mm:ss. I am using Windows 10 and Matlab R2015b. Any guidance welcome.
