can I modify the the pattern recognition input data in neural network tool box ?

As mentioned in the example data set of "breast cancer problem" that that is considers 9 traits of an particular sample, but my question is can I use the sample space it self to let the program figure out itself the underlying pattern (this is not clustering) rather than extracting information out of the data? So that it becomes easier?
