Extracting Names from Excel

Hello, i have created a list of .txt files in excel (myData.xlsx) that look something like this:

ABC_123.txt

DEF_345.txt

GHI_678.txt

I would like to access this excel sheet and pull out cell A1 and open the file ABC_123.txt. I have tried this using xlsread and winopen but to no avail.

Below is what i have tried:

filename='myData.xlsx';

sheet=1;

xlRange='A1:A1';

subsetA=xlsread(filename,sheet,xlRange)

winopen(subsetA)

Any help is greatly appreciated!
