Definin integer variables in fmincon optimization

Hello, I am working on optimization toolbox of Matlab. We have nonlinear constraints and a minimization function. We have 8 variables to optimize however three of these variables are integer and how can I set these variables as integer or how can I put a constraint related with that point. I am currently using fmincon solver

nonlcon parameter and have the routine check for integer

This could end up being entirely impractical

Rounding the values before use would probably be more efficient, but might bog down on the final minimization.
