Hello,
Lately when I click on the Matlab icon on the desktop, it does not start Matlab, but opens Matlab.bat in Notepad! If I run the command in Target in the icon: "C:\Math\MATLAB\R2007a\bin\matlab.bat -sd $documents\MATLAB" under a command window, Matlab works fine. What is the problem?

When you find the .bat file, it should say "Unknown application", and I'm betting yours says "Notepad".
AFAIK the only way to clear an association is to edit the Registry. This is the procedure for Windows 7:
