How to use if statement with xlsread function?

Hi,

I would like to set an if statement that will verify whether the values of y come from the corresponding column and will give back the argument such that:

if y = xlsread(input_file,input_sheet,'b1:b5');
input_sheet='Sheet1';
if y = y=xlsread(input_file,input_sheet,'c1:c5');
input_sheet='Sheet2';
else input_sheet='Sheet3';
end
end

input_file='DATASET';
x=xlsread(input_file,input_sheet,'b1:d5');
