show axes of spherical coordinates

In this plot obtained from the code

[x, y, z] = sphere;
surf(x, y, z);
xlabel('x'); ylabel('y'); zlabel('z');

is there some way to show the phi coordinate (instead of x and y) and the theta coordinate (instead of y).

You can convert those Cartesian coordinates into spherical coordinates using cart2sph but it would be not nice to display them.
