How to add a colorbar to implay?

I know that I could add a colorbar to any figure but I couldn't add them to imtool or implay, at least in the way suggested by the documentation. It would be great if there is a workaround. I have only been around for less than a year so I still don't exactly know how MATLAB GUIs/apps work.

Explain why that even makes sense. For a color image it doesn't make sense. If it's a set of indexed images that you made into a movie, then you can just tack on a colorbar onto the side of your image as you're making each frame.

It's the latter case. What do you mean by 'tack on a colorbar on the side as I'm making each frame'?

I'm not sure what you meant but essentially I still want to process and store the 3D data apart from the colorbar.
