WHAT IS LABEL IN FEATURE SELECTION

In terms of feature selection what does the word "label" means? I'm trying to implement a feature selection algorithm and in that it is said that I have to consider a feature vector and the label vector associated with it. I don't understand that. The feature set I have is that of ECG. It doesn't have any labelling. So, does it mean that I cannot use the feature selection algorithm?
