using shape descriptor with conv2

Hello, I'm using the conv2() function for an image pair but the computation takes a really long time (1024 x 1024 images). If I assume the images are only off by 50 pixels max or some threshold is there a way to speed up using conv2? Would using 'shape' help with this? Thanks.
