Why is absolute path in toolbox .prj file?

I have just tried the "package toolbox" functionality, and the .prj file generated is littered with references to the absolute path to its location. This is entirely inappropriate for putting in version control and sharing with the rest of my team or on GitHub.

What is this information used for? Can I just manually replace it with "."? Why isn't the project root assumed to be the location of the .prj file (or relative to it)?
