How to code real time pattern matching

Hi all,

I have novice matlab skills but something I wanted to try to complete for my research project was to use image processing/machine vision. I would like for matlab to identify when two patterns are aligned in real time. I have attached a picture to show a pattern unaligned.

Background During microfludic fabrication we try to align the patterns. we move the mask over the wafer until the patterns align. I would like to use the camera on the microscope or the image on the computer to verify if the patterns align. we can see it for ourself if the pattern is aligned, but eventually I would like to add some hardware that will move the pattern based on the image processing. For now we move the patterns by hand and I will try to make a code that works.

I think this is also called geometric pattern matching. My question is if there is some similar code some one has used for this task?
