Exporting to excel - xlswrite error

I'm trying to export the data in xlsx format, but I get a csv file instead.

I get the following error when I try to export a table onto Excel:

Warning: Could not start Excel server for export.
XLSWRITE will attempt to write file in CSV format.

Two things I've looked into:

1. I have 64-bit Matlab and 32-bit Excel 2016. EDIT: I have a PC
2. I've tried inputting this code before everything:

actxcontrollist
Excel = actxGetRunningServer('Excel.Application');
Excel = actxserver('Excel.Application')

Even though the error no longer appears, the data still doesn't update in the xlsx format.

If you are using mac you can only write it in csv format.
