Does anyone have any more information on how to format data to be used with trainNetwork?

I am unable to use trainNetwork with an excel sheet because it is not in the correct format. I have tried to read the trainNetwork docs, but nothing is in much detail. I am unsure how to load the data into matlab correctly.
