How often does it happen? Does it happen even after restarting matlab?

always! since i installed the 2017 version on a new laptop with win 10

I also had this problem on a mac but it disappeared once I restarted MATLAB. Try reinstalling the software or contact Mathworks Support Team by clicking the Contact Us button on the top right corner of this page. Please post back the solution suggested by them as an answer and accept it so that people having the same problem wll find it useful.

Maybe you've run a uiwait(), waitfor(), or wait(). Like if you've called imrect() or drawfreehand() or something, and it's waiting for you to finish interacting with that before you do anything else.

If it happens immediately after starting MATLAB, before you run any of your code, then I'd call that an installation issue and would call the Mathworks for free installation help.

I don't understand. What's the problem with the way they answer? After you call them at this number and say to the voice menu "technical" and "installation" and then get a live person, don't they say "Hello" like everyone else?
