read text files of unregular file types using fgets / fgetl

Hi,

I Have a *.gps file which is opened in notepad++ as a text file. If I change it to a .csv ot .txt file I can read rows properly with fgets or fgetl functions.

The problem is, that in my application I can't change this file type during code run, and fgets/fgetl returns only "-1".

Any suggestions?

How are you constructing the file name and opening the file for use with fgets / fgetl ?

The file is constructed bya GPS software. I open a file with fopen, for example:

fid = fopen('a.gps');
row1 = fgets(fid);

The resut is -1.

If I do it for the file "a.csv' instead, row1 contains the first row of this file.

What is the value of fid the first time around? It's possible that Matlab thinks .gps means something different, and that's why the extention is causing a problem, but that gets much deeper into the Matlab code than I know.

@ido shabtay: If the posted code replies -1, either the file "a.pgs" is not existing or empty. It is not a problem of the file format.

fgets and fgetl error if the file could not be opened. -1 is returned when eof has been reached.
