How to get the cursor position relative to figure axes as the cursor moves

Hi, I'd like to get the current cursor position in a figure, relative to the axes. I tried with

 get(gca, 'CurrentPoint');

but this only gives the position of the last clicked point, while I need the value to change as the cursor moves after clicking. In other words, I need something like

 get(0, 'PointerLocation');

but relative to the axes.

CurrentPoint is not related to clicking the mouse. If you refer to it in a mouse move callback then you get the latest mouse position at all times, subject to any lag issues and update frequency.
