How to characterise and measure these black regions in a frame?

I would like to identify and characterise the two elongated black regions and their boundaries in this frame. I have tried with edge but I lose the boundaries.

The image has already been processed (background removal and im2bw).

What's the best way to go about this?

I selected roi and used Active Contours to get the elongated black regions. You may get the desired regions by setting the number of iterations for Active Contours.Please find the attachment
