matlab won't start after windows update

Matlab will not start/open after Windows Update October 3, 2019—KB4524147 (OS Build 18362.388)
Matlab and Simulink have been working fine until just recently. I think a recent Windows Update (KB4524147) has created problems. This is speculative only.
I have not installed any other software recently, nor made any hardware changes.
If I was to uninstall and re-install, I am unsure how some important uni work may be effected, so a bit apprehentious to blinly go down this path.

What are symptoms? I had similar issue; ML would open to command window but hang.
Turned out to be the updates had munged a path to network drive that wasn't valid after the update and ML would never time out on access.
I'd suggest calling Matlab support for startup issues and see if they can guide through getting the install to work first...they were able to point me to how to bypass the issue to solve the issue here. Which was on the college system where I was doing pro bono work, btw; not that that probably has any bearing but is coincidental...I don't recall the update; was a few months ago now so undoubtedly not same one.

I could see very brief start activity in task manager, but apart from that, no visual signs of life at all! I have a deadline on uni projects so I am just reinstalling the MatLab core and hoping for the best.

You can always unsinstall the KB.

I did uninstall the KB, restart PC (and then test) but R2019a still would not start. I then uninstalled Matlab only from the drop down list of Matlab components (Simulink, Toolboxes etc.) Then downloaded the R2019b installer and continued with the download and install process. Matlab is working again now in its R2019b iteration, and all my recent projects are loaded (cached?) up pretty much the way they were. There is peace in the valley once more! A bit of a tedious process using my terrible internet speed, but worth it in the long run. Thans all for your suggestions/help.
