Threshold values [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.. ]

My prof asked me to use brute force method, using threshold value of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.. on each images i have. May i know why is there so many value? i thot it's using level between 0 - 1? thanks!

how do i do about using scalar for thresholding?

Out1 = YourImage < 1;
Out2 = YourImage < 2;
Out3 = YourImage < 3; %...
