How to filter out the white region in BW image and plot a cross on the white square region of a mosaic image

Hi guys! Stay home and stay safe!
I have a mosaic black and white picture as attached (image1). I want to filter out the white region and plot a cross on each square tiles of image just like ploting a red cross on image2. How can I do that??
