DDE23 for Large Timespan

Hello,

I am using DDE23 to solve a system of 4 differential equations (2 of which have delays). I would like to do this for a large timespan (~50,000 seconds) so that I can make a comparison to laboratory data, but at the moment running my code even from 0 to 80 s takes about an hour. I am using a Macbook Pro 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB memory. Is there any alternative solver for delay differential equations or way to speed up my code? Thanks so much for any input. :)
