Making own android apps with Matlab pros and cons

I just learnt that is possible to make apps for android mobiles writing the “core” code in Matlab. I would like to know what sort of apps are expected to be built with this? What sort of apps would exploit Matlab features that make it worthy to use Matlab for android apps? And what sort of apps will be out the scope of Matlab?

Any hint of references will be appreciated.
