Unable to import plot created using histogram as .eps file into SWP file

I created a plot using the Matlab function histogram. I saved it as an .eps file. I was then unable to import it to a Scientific Workplace document. I get the message "Current file is bad." I have never had this issue before using the Matlab functions hist or histc.

I am able to import the plot if I save it as a .png or .jpeg but these formats never look as good.

I contacted SWP who indicated that a typical workaround to this is to open the graphic in a third party application and then export it. They were unable to open this graphic with Ghostscript, Irfanview, or Microsoft PowerPoint.
