How to flip webcam input vertically?

I have tried a bunch of the image rotation and flip methods found on forums, but they are not working for flipping webcam image in preview.

I have done:

canon=webcam
x=flipud(canon)

and a bunch of other methods but when you preview x the video is not flipped

    frame = flipud(snapshot(cam));
