It's best if you start working on the code for ML first. When you have something that works, then you can easily set up the UI and replace your variable values with the ones from UI.
As Mario Malicsuggested, it would be better to have the ML part of your code working first.
The next thing you work on is writing code in the app designer and setting up callback functions which execute scripts/ functions of the ML part of your code.
