I was going to ask you the same thing. Because that is ambiguous I need an example. Do you simply want to launch a standalone program from your GUI with the system() or dos() function? Or do you want to turn your GUI into a standalone program with the MATLAB Compiler Toolbox?

Is there a point to adding a GUI to control a stand-alone program that does not take any input ?

You put the code into the callbacks for the various buttons and controls on your GUI. The best way is for you to spend some time with Doug's excellent video tutorials. After you watch those you'll know exactly what to do. http://blogs.mathworks.com/videos/category/gui-or-guide/
