How do I draw multiple overlapping patches while preserving the colours?

I've got a multi-body simulation which I am animating via patches. However when some of the bodies overlap each other a different colour is shown in their intersection.

Is there a way to preserve the colour of a particular patch? I thought it was a transparency issue, but it turns out the patches are opaque by default.
