Simulink serial communication baud rate

Here is the situation. I set the Baud Rate 9600 in Simulink and want to receive data from a microcontroller through RS232. What will happen if the simulation time in Simulink is not equal to real time? For example, when my model grows complicated, the simulation time is about tenth slower than real time. Will the COM port still work under this condition?
